ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the short-term clinical efficacy of addition and subtraction therapy and external washing treatment of Danggui Niantongtang to knee osteoarthritis (KOA) with heumatism heat Bi syndrome and to investigate its effect on disease activity. Method:One hundred and eighteen patients with KOA were randomly divided into control group (58 cases) and observation group (60 cases) by random number table. Patients in control group got celecoxib capsules, 0.2 g/time, 1 time/day, diclofenac diethylamine emulgel for the pain, 3 times/days. Patients in observation group got addition and subtraction therapy and external washing treatment of Danggui Niantongtang. The course of treatment was 2 weeks in both groups. Before treatment and at the 2th, 4th, 6th and 14th weeks after treatment, scores of visual analog scale (VAS) were graded for pain in walking and tranquillization. Function of knee joint was evaluated by western Ontario and McMaster university osteoarthritis index (WOMAC) both before and after treatment. Scores of heumatism heat Bi syndrome and Japanese Orthopaedic Associate (JOA), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), superoxide dismutase (SOD), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and matrix metalloproteinases-3 (MMP-3) levels were evaluated. Result:At the 6th and 14th weeks after treatment, scores of VAS in observation group were lower than those in control group during walking and tranquillization time. Scores of three dimensions in WOMAC (pain, stiffness, joint function) and the total score of WOMAC in observation group were all lower than those in control group (PPβ, IL-6, TNF-α and MMP-3 were lower than those in control group, and level of SOD was higher than that in control group (PConclusion:Addition and subtraction therapy and external washing treatment of Danggui Niantongtang can relieve the pain and degree of disease caused by KOA with heumatism heat Bi syndrome, swelling and dysfunction, and can control acute inflammation index, reduce disease activity.

ABSTRACT

Objective To automatically extract the characteristics of fundus cataract by deep learning, construct a automatic classifier for cataract, and visualize the layer-by-layer feature transformation process of the intermediate layer of deep network. Methods Based on the clinical fundus image, a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) was used to directly learn useful features from the original representation of input data, and then the features extracted by the CNN were compared with pre-defined features. The deconvolution neural network (DN) method was used to quantitatively analyze the characteristics of each intermediate layer of CNN, analyze the pixel sets that have the most contribution to the prediction performance of CNN in the input image, and explore the process in characterizing cataract by CNN. Results The classifier constructed by deep learning achieved an average accuracy of 0.818 6 in four-category tasks. Compared with the existing predefined feature set, the feature set automatically extracted by the deep CNN performed better in representing characteristics of cataract. The features of the intermediate layer of CNN hierarchically transformed from low-level abstraction to high-level abstraction, including changed from gradient to edge, then to the combination of edge-like divergent structures, and finally to the high-level abstraction of blood vessel and optic disc information, and this transformation process coincided with the clinical diagnostic criteria of cataract. Conclusion The classifier based on deep learning is superior to the existing classifier in terms of performance. In addition, this method has potential application in detecting other eye diseases.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>Previous studies revealed that culprit vessels of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) were often related to mild or moderate stenosis. However, recent studies suggested that severe stenosis was primarily found in culprit lesions. The objective of this study was to analyze the stenosis severity of culprit lesions in STEMI patients and to clarify the paradoxical results.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A total of 489 consecutive STEMI patients who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention were retrospectively studied from January 2012 to December 2014. The patients were divided into three groups based on stenosis severity using quantitative coronary analysis: Group A, 314 cases, stenosis ≥70%; Group B, 127 cases, stenosis 50-70%; and Group C, 48 cases, stenosis ≤50%. The clinical, demographic, and angiographic data of all groups were analyzed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Patients in Group A exhibited a significantly higher prevalence of history of angina pectoris (95.9% vs. 62.5%, P< 0.001), multivessel disease (73.2% vs. 54.2%, P = 0.007), and lower cardiac ejection fraction (53.3 ± 8.6 vs. 56.8 ± 8.4, P= 0.009) than those in Group C. Multivariable analysis revealed that history of angina pectoris (odds ratio [OR]: 13.89, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 6.21-31.11) and multivessel disease (OR: 2.32, 95% CI: 1.25-4.31) were correlated with severe stenosis of the culprit lesion in Group A.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Most culprit lesions in STEMI patients were severe stenosis. These patients exhibited a higher prevalence of angina history and multivessel diseases.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the dominant seed-borne fungi of Glycyrrihiza seeds which were from different producing area and compare the disinfection effect of several fungicides on seed-borne fungi of Glycyrrihiza seed.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>Petri-dish testing was used to determine the external and internal seed-borne fungi and the disinfection effect of fungicides.</p><p><b>RESULT AND CONCLUSION</b>The result showed that the amount of spore on the surface of one Glycyrrihiza seed varied from 0.3% to 37.0% among samples. Penicillium spp. and Aspergillus spp. were the two major dominant fungi and there was few differences in the type of the fungi among producing areas but differences in the isolation frequency of the furgi; Penicillium spp. , Rhizopus spp. , Aspergillus spp. and Alternaria spp. were the internally dominant seed-borne fungi, including seed capsule and the internal tissue of seed and their fungi-carrying percentage was 8.0%-48.3% and 3.5%-42.0% respectively. There were differences in fungi percentage and dominant seed borne fungi among different producing areas. The disinfection effect of both mancozeb and thriam was up to 89.0%, so it is suggested to use them to disinfect Glycyrrihiza seed.</p>

ABSTRACT

The meridians belong to zang-fu organs inside and connect with the extremities outside. They keep information exchange among different tissues and make various organs of the human body as an organic whole. If the meridians are blocked and the information exchange makes mistake, the body will produce pathologic changes. Because the location of the blocked part is difficult to identify, in this paper it is explained that selection of distal acupoints is the best way to dredge the nodes of disease, and the theoretical basis is closely related with the theories of "the root cause and symptoms of a disease", "Genjie", and "Jing, Xing, Shu, Jing, He", and also implies the thought of "to cure a disease must treat the root of the disease".

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo probe the effect of the electroacupuncture on vascular dementia(VD) and content of arginine vasopressin(AVP) in brain of rats. Methods30 Sprague Dawley rats were made renal hypertension(RHR) by the kidney arteries pinched with silver clip. After 42 days, their bilateral common carotid arteries were blocked repeatedly to cause cerebral ischemia. The Hypertension Vascular Dementia model was made. Then they were divided into model group, electroacupuncture group and medicine group(Dihydroergotoxine,DHET) with 10 in each group. The course was 28 days. The ability of learning and memorizing was observed by water maze, and the content of AVP in brain was detected after treatment. ResultsThe latent period of the electroacupuncture group and medicine group was shorter than that of the model group(P<0.05-0.005), and that of the electroacupuncture group was shorter than medicine group(P<0.05-0.005). In frontal lobe, the contents of AVP in the electroacupuncture and medicine groups were higher than that of model group( P<0.01,P<0.05), and the electroacupuncture group was higher than medicine group in striatum (P<0.05). Conclusions It indicated that electroacupuncture therapy can promote the ability of learning and memorizing and enhance the content of AVP in the brain of VD rats. It's therapeutic effect is better than that of DHET.
